AGUDATH ISRAEL LETTER OF SUPPORT TO
PRESIDENT BUSH
The Honorable George W. Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr. President:
Just a short note to convey to you, on behalf of the rabbinic and lay leadership of Agudath Israel of America, our strong sense of solidarity with you and the vital mission America and its allies have undertaken in Iraq.
We are well aware that there are those in religious communities across our great nation who are opposed to military action as a matter of religious conviction. From the perspective of classical Jewish thought , however, waging war against an implacable foe whose evil designs pose a clear and present danger to the security and well being of his own country and the rest of the world may well be the only moral and just course to pursue.
“There is a time for war,” Ecclesiastes tells us. That time, it would appear, is now. We have been deeply moved by your fortitude and conviction, and even more so by your humility and faith. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers constantly.
May G-d be with the brave soldiers who are risking their lives to advance the cause of Iraqi freedom and world wide peace. May He continue to grant you the courage and strength to confront evil in whatever guise it may appear.
Sincerely,
David Zwiebel
Executive Vice President for Government and Public Affairs
Agudath Israel of America
