Proclamation by Agudath Israel of America

(Yated Ne-eman, 28 Iyar 5763, May 30, 2003)

Proclamation

WHEREAS, through the mercy of the Al-mighty, the Orthodox Jewish community has experienced extraordinary growth in the United States of America;

WHEREAS, the United States of America, as a nation that was built on the foundation of religious liberty, has furnished a climate hospitable to and protective of the practice of Judaism and the flourishing of yeshivos, synagogues and other institutions of Jewish religious life;

WHEREAS, as the leader of the free world, the United States of America has used its might as a force for human rights, democracy and freedom across the globe, and has served as a beacon of light and hope, and as a historical haven, for persecuted Jews and other oppressed citizens of the world;

WHEREAS, the United States of America has consistently displayed friendship to the people of Israel and a firm commitment to their security needs; and

WHEREAS, it is a basic obligation of the Jewish faith to recognize and acknowledge the good that one receives from others;

NOW, THEREFORE, as Agudath Israel of America enters its ninth decade as an organized voice and arm of American Orthodox Jewry, it is fitting that we express our appreciation and gratitude to the United States of America, this great benevolent republic that has been good to the Jewish people.

MAY THE AL-MIGHTY reward the United States of America for its benevolence and continue to bestow His abundant blessings upon our esteemed President, the Honorable George W. Bush; upon our distinguished elected representatives in the halls of Congress; and upon the entire government and citizenry of the United States of America.

Presented at the Evening of Tribute and Annual Dinner of Agudath Israel of America, this 23rd day of Iyar 5763 / 25th day of May 2003.
